10- How to transfer a few
cabinet, pattern and/or scene files
from one computer to
another one. |
The Scene Transfer feature
compress into one Encapsulated Compressed Scene file (".SEZ"),
one or more scene files and all their external cabinet and pattern
files required to render their 3D perspectives.
The Scene Transfer feature is
found in the Scene Editor program under
Options.
Its primary purpose is to archive old scenes to free space on your
hard disk by deleting them after. Another advantage is that you will get less scene
files listed in the scene file requester.
As a secondary purpose, you can also
use the Scene Transfer feature to transfer cabinet and pattern
files by using a container scene. A container scene is simply a
normal scene with no design that only contains cabinets and simple
objects using the patterns that you want to transfer.
Transferring
cabinet files :
Begin by creating a container scene in which you will add all the
cabinets to transfer. Then save the scene under a significant
name (like "BKP Cabinets 01"
). Go in the Options mode. Click the
Scene
Transfer button. Be sure that the large button named
Hard
Disk to Diskette (the one at the left) is selected. Click
the Add button and select the container scene that you want to
transfer. You can add more than one scene by clicking
again the Add button.
If you do not want to transfer some
specific cabinets or patterns, simply click on the desired
List
button and unselect the files you do not want. You can not
unselect an added scene, you can only remove it by using the
Discard
button.
When ready to start the compression,
click the Execute button. Select the target folder and
enter the Encapsulated Compressed Scene file name.
(Important
Known Bug : Click
here for all details.) Click on the Save button. Click on the
OK
button to confirm the start of archiving.
To restore the cabinet files, run the
Scene
Editor program from the target computer. Go in the
Options
mode. Click the Scene Transfer button. Be sure that
the large button named Diskette to Hard Disk (the one at the
right) is selected. Select the Encapsulated Compressed Scene
file name then click on the Open button. At this point you
have the possibility to unselect some specific cabinets or patterns
that you do not want to restore. You can also set the
Restore
Options by clicking in the
Additional
Parameters button.
When ready to start the restoration,
click the Execute button and then click on the
OK button
to confirm. All the scene files will be installed and all the
selected cabinet and pattern files will be also installed.
Transferring
pattern files :
This is done in the same manner than the cabinet files explained above
but with a small difference. You first need to add a simple
object of the type of the pattern that you want to transfer.
Then you assign the pattern to the simple object. By example, if
you want to transfer seven wall paper pattern files, you will need to
add seven wall objects and assign one different pattern to each
wall. For door style pattern files, add several time the same
cabinet and assign one different pattern to each one as a
Local
Pattern. If you do not want the cabinet to be transferred,
just unselect it from the corresponding List.
Transferring
adding preferences files :
You can not transfer those files using the Scene Transfer
feature because they are not considered as external files for a
scene. (Try tip #11
instead.) or (Try tip #16
instead.)
Transferring
group-object files :
You can not transfer those files using the Scene Transfer
feature because they are not considered as external files for a
scene. (Try tip #11
instead.) or (Try tip #16
instead.) However, you can put several
group-objects in a container scene, transfer and reload it in the
target computer, then resave manually each group-object.
